seriously,

how the hell would you respond to this?!?

Situation:
I’m sitting on my desk when one officemate enters my office…

Ofsm8: Hi, how are you?
Mi: I’m fine, thanks.
Ofsm8: Mishal, wat is dat? [pointing to the contact lens solution on my table]
Mi: It’s my contact lens solution, used for cleaning my lens. I also put it in my eyes when I’m wearing lens so that my eyes will not feel dry.
Ofsm8: I see… [watches me put some droplets of solution into my eyes]

After maybe 15 seconds…

Ofsm8: Mishal, what happen? Why are you crying?
Mi: Did you not see me put contact lens solution into my eyes?
Ofsm8: Yes… but now you are crying… Any problems? Tell me…

***I swear to God he’s not kidding when he asked that. Hayz!

Now this happened just 2 minutes ago, while I’m typing the above story…

Ofsm8 2: Hi, how are you?
Mi: I’m okay.
Ofsm8 2: Mishal, are you busy?
Mi: No…
Ofsm8 2: Why are you so busy? You’re always busy…
Mi: ???

i ♥ shabu²

Last Sunday (Valentine’s Day), we opted to have a group date rather than go out separately in pairs so as to avoid even just a bit the heart’s day clichés. So Momon and I together with Debz, Mio and couple Deej and Roy decided to go to a Chinese restaurant in Baniyas Road and eat shabu-shabu, etc.

Along the way to the restaurant, we again unleashed our “takaw picture selves” and eagerly pose, pose pose at the camera.

When we arrived at the restaurant, as expected, it was full so we played at the nearby arcade while waiting for our table to be available…

We were so starved by the time we get to seat and order; that is why when our food came, nobody bothered to take pictures of it. “Galit-galit muna mode” was established while eating.

Had so much fun going out with my flatmates. (^__^)

The Tale of the Undomestic Princess

Long, long time ago (1 ½ years) in a far, far away land (Philippines), there lived a princess (Mi) who does not know how to cook or do any household chores. Despite full efforts of the queen (my mom), she was not able to impart her domestic prowess to her daughter (Mi again).

Then one day, the girl decided to go to the desert (Dubai) to seek for an adventure and follow her true love (Momon). Alas, she experienced a life without the queen and her chamberlains (my brothers); thus deprived of home cooked meals.

Afraid of dying due to famine, she gathered all her courage, tried to overcome her fears (cutting self with a knife, spilling boiling oil to her legs, holding garlic & onions long enough for the smell to stick in her hands), she embarked to the scary, dangerous chamber (kitchen)…

Many dusks and dawns passed; after numerous episodes of queries (i.e. “Is that coconut milk really supposed to turn oily and brown?”), and answer (“Only if you want to make coconut oil…”), screaming (“Help, the frying pan is on fire!!!”), struggling and cursing (Damn it! This dish looks like charcoal and tastes like salt!”) and other difficulties (going near the pan to turn the fish while frying , peeling off squash), she was able to learn cook edible dishes.

And thus end the tale of the undomestic princess.

stuff that I do when I’m bored at work

…which is almost all the time so maybe it’s more appropriate to call this…

Stuff that I do when I’m at work:

1. Check my emails

2. Log in to Facebook and catch up with my friends

3. Play Sorority Life on FB

4. Feed my fishes and clean the tank on Happy Aquarium

5. Read blogs

6. Write blogs

7. Practice not to breathe so that when the girl officemate who reeks like overused Minola oil comes to my office, I can hold my breath for as long as she’s here

8. Think of effective ways to get Minola girl to realize that putting oil to her hair and not washing it for 6 consecutive days is not the proper way of hair grooming; as telling her that she should shampoo her hair and rinse it thoroughly with water did not work.

9. Browse tumblr.com

10. Make paper stars and origami crane

11. Eat pistachio nuts

12. Pluck my eyebrows

13
. Put on make up

14. Browse and print complicated recipes on the net; only to end up cooking sunny side up eggs and bacon for dinner later

15. Write notes on my handy dandy notebook

16. Condition mind to restrain self from slapping those people who find it surprising / puzzling / weird when they see me in the toilet brushing my teeth after eating lunch.

17. Reflect on how to be a Zen goddess

18. Train self to swiftly bolt out of the office after spraying air freshener so as not to inhale it and not be suffocated by the chemicals of the air freshener combined with officemates’ stink.

19. Ponder about what Jesus would do if He’s got officemates like mine.

20. Consider what to repeat doing as after completing all of the above; it’s still not freakin’ time to go home!!!

Welcome to Dubai corporate world.

My office’s timing is from 8AM to 5PM… It’s 3:38 in my computer clock and I’ve got nothing to do. Lecheng office to, walang magawa!!!

So I just log in to tumblr.com and browse my friends’ posts…

Then I saw this:

This became my reaction:
=))
(Too bad the emoticons of yahoo don’t work in here)!

Katawa lang. makasaysayan!

I hart u, tumblr!

palindrome

Just learned a cool fact from Joycie’s FB this morning:

my ning & I’s 5th anniversary date is a palindrome.

01022010

(This is how people in UAE and apparently people in Japan write February 1, 2010)

FYI lang.

…………………………

I read in one of Sidney Sheldon’s novels that when Napoleon Bonaparte was exiled in Elba, he uttered one long palindrome:
“Able was I, ere I saw Elba…”

It made me think, “Lintek na yan, nakulong na e nakapag-isip pa ng palindrome! Geeky much, Napoleon?” Then I heard my superego say, “Pati ba naman si Napoleon e pinakelaman mo. Walang basagan ng trip, kanya-kanya lang ng drama yan, Mi!”

literally

I’ve wanted to watch (500) Days of Summer since I came across the movie title in the yahoo page and learned that Joseph Gordon-Levitt is in it. Also, considering the title, I got this hunch that it would be interesting and refreshing and of course, the fact that JGL starred in it is already a treat.

I waited for it last year to be shown in Dubai cinemas but I don’t know if I just missed it despite checking Cinestar websites every once in a while or again Dubai decided to be stupid and preferred other irrelevant nonsense movies instead of a good one.

So I just downloaded it and watched it last Tuesday and got another movie to put in favorites list. I so love (500) Days of Summer! It certainly lived up to my expectations and more… the only thing that’s bugging me is that it took me this long before I get to watch it.

Can’t help chuckling every time I remember this scene:

TOM: I liked this girl. I loved her. And what did she do? She took a giant shit on my face… Literally.
ALLISON: Literally???
TOM: Well, no, not literally. That's disgusting. Jeez, what's wrong with you?

I liked this scene too:

RACHEL: Better that you find this out now before you come home and find her in bed with Lars from Norway.
TOM: Who’s Lars from Norway?
RACHEL: He's some guy she met at the gym with Brad Pitt's face and Jesus' abs.
TOM: … And this:

SUMMER: I woke up one morning and I just knew.
TOM: Knew what?
SUMMER: What I was never sure of with you.

There are some many great scenes in this movie. I have to stop myself before I go on and on about it. What more can I say?... I love it! Har, har, har!
